Professional photographers and video producers or videographers provide visual media that can be critical to the branding of your show. Since you want that media to be a positive reflection of your production, it’s important to find the right person.

Photographers

Quality production photos can be a key part of media coverage of your production. They can appear alongside reviews and in listings and accompany feature articles about your show. They’ll also be integral to your advertising and marketing campaign. You can use them on your show’s website, in e-blasts, on social media, and on posters, flyers, and postcards.

Many shows use publicity photos shot in a location other than the performance venue. Sometimes this is simply a product of timing (e.g., rehearsals haven’t begun; set and costumes aren’t ready); in other situations, non-performance images may preferable for the show’s particular creative approach. These publicity photos can help you get a jump on your marketing efforts, and some of them may even become a fixture of your publicity campaign.

Video Production & Videographers

Video was once considered a luxury, but in today’s fast-paced digital world, it’s a necessity. Video can promote your show in a variety of ways. Here are some examples:

  • Footage from a performance or dress rehearsal can be used as B-roll (the additional or background footage that accompanies television news and features) for video reviews of the show
  • B-roll can also accompany video features such as interviews with members of the cast and creative team
  • Performance video can be used to pitch future productions of the show
  • Commercials for television and/or online video outlets
  • Promotional videos or trailers for your website, social media, YouTube, and e-blasts
  • Testimonials from audience members that can be posted on your website and shared via social media
  • Ongoing online video series that take you behind the scenes or present skits and vignettes with members of the cast

Please note that there may be limitations on the use of performance video depending on the specific union contract(s) that your production is operating under.
